M74/80 Gras

Post by racerguy00 »

Picked up an interesting Gras rifle a little while ago. A prior owner autographed it, from the looks of it a long time ago. Non matching, good bore, makes a good pair with the Chassepot bayonet. It looks about 7 feet long with it attached. :D

Beautiful rifle, It's really difficult to fit these long, long rifles into a single frame. Beautiful firearm.

French firearms are underrated. They are really nice pieces to have and shoot. I’ve got three French rifles so far-M1886 M93, M1892 carbine and a M1892 M16 carbine. I may have to shoot the carbines this weekend.

Now that is a really cool old French relic! The bayonet is almost barbaric, which for a bayonet is just right.

They are a very strong rifle. Some were rechambered during World War One for the 8mm Lebel rifle cartridge. Testing determined that the action and bolt were strong enough to safely use the smokeless powder ammunition without modification.
