Finnish Mosin

Post by smithmc3 »

So if this works hopefully you will see pics of my Mosin. Any help with the ID and history of this would be greatly appreciated. I know it is Finnish, as the SA and VKT indicate, It has no Russian markings that I can find at all, so I don't think it was a capture. It desperately needs a good cleaning which is planned for this weekend. What do you experts think?

I can't see all of the rifle, but it looks to be a Finn M91 made in 1942 by VKT. By the small import mark up by the muzzle I would say imported in the late 80's to very early 90's when such import marks were allowed. Other than that there isn't much I can tell, but what I can see in the pics looks nice.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.

You should find Russian markings on the underside of the tang that indicates the date of manufacture (of the receiver) and where it was made. Looks like a fairly nice Finn M-91..
