1894 Sestroryetsk/Finn/Austrian

Post by Shelbygt500 »

Well I finally pulled this baby up today.
This is the oldest one I have now. 1894 Sestroryetsk. The Finns had it and the stock was in the hands of the Austrians I see a W mark near the butt plate plus skiing holes. Still had the original sling slots on the mag and front band. I believe the stock is a 1901? This is the first time I've seen one dated under the butt stock. Nothing matches but all parts are sestroryetsk marked even the bayonet. She's a beauty. Bore is pretty nice too..
What do y'all think..ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Love it!

I can't recall seeing "skiing holes" on here before? How uncommon is that?
Alexander Hamilton, Federalist Papers #29: ...if circumstances should at any time oblige the government to form an army of any magnitude that army can never be formidable to the liberties of the people while there is a large body of citizens, little, if at all, inferior to them in discipline and the use of arms, who stand ready to defend their own rights and those of their fellow-citizens.
