8mm Mauser Ammo

Post by amm9130 »

I picked up a box of 8mm mauser ammo at the gun show this weekend and was told that it was German ammo. But I'm just not convinced, I'm new to the Mauser market but all the German mauser ammo I've seen has had markings on it. Does anybody know what kind of mauser ammo this is?

I have some of that, I picked it up many years ago and I don't recall what it was. I think it was marketed as German at the time, but I don't think I confirmed that. I shoot ammo more than I collect it.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

It's old for sure... anything stamped on the box?

Interesting. The only surplus I've seen without markings before was Japanese.

I have some Turkish that has bullets like that but they are stamped as such on the head.

There is no markings on the ammo or the box. That's what I thought was odd

No, the box is blank and it was the only box of it they had. I seen it and thought its 8mm, I'm here, its here and bought it. Hopefully I'll be able to shoot this weekend and put it to good use

Don't go shooting any of this until you can verify for sure what it is.

For comparison ..... here is a "battle pack" from 1938 of German 8mm I have and what it looks like

Most German ammo I've seen is very well marked on the box and on the rim.

That's how I thought the German ammo looked, which made me question if it was actually German or not. Mine is in the cardboard box, but the information tab has been tore of the box

Few years back I read somewhere on the internet that Czechlosovakia made "Sanitized" or "Covert Operations" 8mm ammo for sale to other countries. How true that is I can't tell you, but if it's on the internet its got to be true right! Makes sense if you think of it along the lines of Plausible Deniability.

That's Right!
Damn, I'll bet that's going to leave a mark! Probably hurt too!

The plain unmarked boxes were probably the result of being reboxed from bulk for the sake of reselling.

Pulled a bullet on one of my DWM cartridges-the base of the lead core was marked DM by the manufacturer. Talk about being anal with marking stuff.
