Recently got a 1918 Gewehr 98. I also have a 1944 K98. The bolts looked exactly the same to me but I'm no expert. I interchanged them and both rifles worked just fine. Not saying it's the bright thing to do but curiosity get the best of me.

Your K98 bolt should be turned down. The Gew 98 is a straight bolt.

The bolts are interchangeable, the K98 is essentially just a shorter Gew 98

You contacted Brownells and got a 8mm Mauser headspace gauge set so you know the rifles are in spec? This is a bullet style gauge not made by our Okie, 8MM Mauser is a rimless case that headspaces on the case shoulder rather than the rim like 7,62x54r. Rimless cases are far less forgiving of poor headspace than rimmed ones. Don't play with your life foolishly, check the headspace or pay a gunsmith to do it for you.
