Hi! -- First Mosin

Post by paulieocean »

HI,

New to the forum and Mosins. Bought this 39 Tula, which I think is a refurb. Got a lot of good info on the gunboards forum about it. Saw this forum and thought I would join.

Here is my MN

Use the forum resources to learn how to detail clean it. How to check headspace and then have fun. Id get a spam can of surplus sooner rather than later.

Both '39 Tula's I've had were the best round 91/30's out of about 12 I've had. I still got one , a friend the other. I hope yours is the same......SBP :wave.gif:

Already got a spam can from 1981. I hoping to fire it for the first time this weekend at the range in Vancouver, WA.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

When youre sure its safe, take it out and shoot it. The first round goes off and you feel like youve been in a car wreck. The sound is distictive. Your shoulder will take a beating. They kick like they are mad at ya. You'll be hooked. I went through 80 rounds today along with 150 rounds in my SKS. The SKS is fun. But nothing beats the Mosin for me.

Post your shooting experiences when you break it in.....LoL  Like its not broke in already! :chuckles:

Great to have you here Paulie, these are just amazing rifles to own, and have a long, often dark history like many other war rifles. Great bolt action shooting and ammo is still easy to find at great prices.

HI,

Took the rifle to the range on saturday. My shoulder may never forgive me now. a recoil pad is definitely in order. The 100 yrd range was full and I can't really see the targets that far with iron sights, so I went to the 50 yard one. Put about 50 rounds through. Gun performed great, however the magazine floor plate kept coming loose after firing a shot. Ended up holding it up while aiming the gun. I did manage to get some hits on paper. Gun was shooting high/right, so may need to adjust the sights or aim downward.

Plan to do some more shooting after my shoulder recovers!
