I felt the same way about building a rifle. I always wanted to build one but also knew that such things, even the kits, are not for beginners. Then I found Kiblers Long Rifles (https://kiblerslongrifles.com/). I've built one already and have had another one in the box for over a year that I haven't gotten around to yet. Not only have they made the build process very easy but he has extensive YouTubes that takes you through everything even finishing. I watched just about all of them before I decided to order my first one.
Did you ever do anything to the lock ? I just watched a Youtube for SUR=FIN rustic brown, check it out.
No, not yet. Lazy I guess. The lock has to be totally disassembled. Not a big deal... I just haven't gotten around to it yet.
What YouTube are you talking about?

Oh, I didn't see the video. I did a little research on Sur Fin colors. I'm just not sure yet how I want the lock to look. I'm thinking of an aged metal look but not brown. I could probably get that look by using one coat of the chemical I used to age the barrel. Actually, I used a brass ager on the barrel because in the very first Kibler video this is what he used on the barrel. When I get around to it, I'll probably test on the back side of the lock.
