This is the trigger on my Model 39, 1897 Izhevsk. According to my reference material this trigger is for a mode 28. The small hole near the base of the trigger serves no purpose according to my material. Any ideas ? Looking at the amount of gunk I don't think it's a replacement. Thanks.

Which one do you have?
I wouldn't be surprised to see a M28 trigger on a M39.
Normal for the Finn's

Thanks for the reply. Mine is the M28 trigger. I guess there is no reason for it to
be on my M39.

It will work fine on the M-39. The gunk is from being dirty. The rifle needs to be cleaned

There's no reason for it not to have a M28 trigger either. These rifles were rebuilt post war, sometimes multiple times. The Finn's wasted nothing so it's not unusual to find parts meant for other Finnish models on different model rifles. As examples I've got multiple Finnish rifles with stocks from different models and both of my post war made M91's have M27 triggers.

That M39 has been degunkizrized. Looks pretty good for 125 years old.
