Scrap day...

Post by awalker1829 »

My scrap brass bin was getting close to full, so I took it down to the local scrap yard. Thirty eight pounds netted me just over $43, so it was at least worth the trip into town.

I’m also changing a couple of loads after having issues with Winchester 748 powder. Took my FN49 shooting yesterday with cartridges loaded with Win748 and had a couple that the primer failed to ignite. Net result was a bullet lodged in the breech end and lumps of yellowed powder and grains of unburned powder making a mess. I’d had similar issues with British 303 loaded with the same powder. Reloaded cartridges for the FN with IMR 4895 and had no ignition problems, so it’s likely a powder and primer combination issue. Simple solution is don’t use Winchester 748. Now to pull the bullets on my remaining reloaded British 303, dump the powder, charge with an alternative powder load and reseat the bullets.
