Back to my childhood... Glenfield model 60

Post by Rongo »

Growing up in a small farm town I made a few really good friends, and one of my best friends lived out in the country with thousands of acres of woods out his back door & the town gun range next door. He had his own .22 rifle but I did not; & my dad would't let me borrow his. We were about 12 at the time & both proficient and safe with firearms.
Well my buddie's dad had an old Glenfield model 60 hanging on the wall in the garage & I got to use that for my woods carry gun & Squirrel exterminator. Many miles I carried that old Glenfield in the woods & shot many rounds through it. A lot of good memories, and I always wanted to get another someday...

A few weeks ago a friend says he wanted to get rid of his old Glenfield model 60. Seems it was failing to eject rounds, but otherwise shot fine & was in good shape. I asked what he wanted & the price was $75. Why not? So he dropped it off a week or so ago, we made the transaction & I got around to tinkering with it the other day. The ejector wire was pushed down & in so I adjusted it & took it to my Cousin's place up North yesterday.

Shot great, fed perfect & ejected every round without issue. May not be the same exact gun; But I got my old Squirrel gun back! I'm a happy guy.

Oh yea, I have the Marlin 60, and fixed a nice Glenfield for a friend of mine ten years back and it's still going strong.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Glad you got it. We need to get out to shoot it! I'm off Fri, Sat., & Sun......

I sort of have what I grew up with. My Dad had a Rem. 572 pump, shot many a rat at the dump up at the cabin with it. My son traded his 552 auto for my 10/22 a while back. Now I just need to find a K2.5 Weaver to top it.....

Nice old Glenfield. If it gives you any more eject issues, check on rimfire central for the "nickel trick". There is a way to adjust the ejector wire using a nickel as a gauge.

That's about what I did to adjust it... Spits them out very consistently. 8-)

I agree. I gave my son my 10/22 when I found a model 60.

My first rifle also. Mine shot lots and lots of shells growing up. Many a tin or soda can died from the model 60.Had not thought much of it until I read this thread. Brings back lots of memories of me and my dad.
