Soviet-refurbished Hungarian m48 (91/30)

Post by racerguy00 »

Another collector found this rifle covered in grease in a crate of normal Soviet refurb 91/30s and he was kind enough to offer it to me. These pop up from time to time and a few are owned by other memberst here.

No one is sure how these ended up in the Soviet refurb pipeline. Maybe captured in the 1956 Hungarian Uprising, but no way to tell. I've not seen any dated later than 1953 and no similar Hungarian carbines have been noted so that theory may not be correct

The only remaining Hungarian parts on this refurb are the barrel and 1951 dated receiver. Everything else is the typical refurb mix and match of parts including a wartime stock. Thentrega numbered parts are force matched including bayonet, but the G in the prefix was transcribed as a 6. Interesting stock repair, and a fantastic bore. The entire barrel is plum colored, and they tried touching it up at the muzzle with black paint with little success. Refurb stamp indicates a stop in Kiev.

Note the plum color under certain lighting.
