Re: Picked up a Norinco Type 56 (SKS) but don't know much about them.
Well, it turns out that, at least according to the buyer/collector that I showed it too, there are a couple of issues with it. Someone etched Norinco on the cover http://www.medlong.com/norinco.jpg which could be corrected by getting a clean Chinese cover. (The correct import marks on on the barrel ...

I did manage to find a collector that wants to either buy it outright (for more than twice what we paid) or trade for an nice shooter and cash. We haven't been able to match up our schedules yet but she is a safe queen for now.

Re: Picked up a Norinco Type 56 (SKS) but don't know much about them.
All SKS are made with milled receivers. Looks like you got yourself a quality example. Be forewarned, they tend to get lonely and require more of their brethren as company..... ;-) From what I have been told, mine is definitely a stamped receiver. China made their Type 56 with stamped receivers in ...

http://www.medlong.com/sks1.jpg http://www.medlong.com/sks2.jpg http://www.medlong.com/sks_mark.jpg Pretty sure it is a stamped receiver. I gave $340 for it out of an estate sale. It looks like new. Clean, crisp bore, Crown looks untouched. Very nice stock. I will try to see it is shoots straight t...

Re: M39 is plenty capable at 600 yards (and a bit of a range report)
good report. I hope to put my M39 (Iron) up against my Remington M1903 (Leatherwood Scope) and see how they match up. I expect the M1903 to win but one never knows as the M39 is pretty darn good.

I got one of the $100 off models and did fine. A few years ago I bought one of the 92S Berettas and did not do so well. Most of the other buys from there have been fine. My 77PS is outstanding.

Looks like it was 1549 first. Not sure what the other number is. Poor thing has been stamped to death but I do like the Smiley face stamp on it.

I got one of the $249 scratch and dents. It even came with the hangtag. It took me about 2 hours to get it all cleaned up. The rust was under the wood for the most part. More importantly, it is a great shooter. I posted pics in the show off your M39 thread.

I got the old girl out today for a function check. At 25 meters it was outstanding. Hopefully I will get to a full range soon.
It is, by far, the most accurate MN that I have ever shot.

Re: M39 Review...........Post Your m39's We have some new one's on the forums!!!
I decided to go with the Orange oil. It came out very nice. I did find a tiny bit of surface rust when I took it apart, mostly on the outside of the magazine' That is now killed and oiled. I cleaned out some really old oil from the bolt group and trigger, Now all run smooth as glass. I am very impre...

Thanks, I am wondering what folks are using to clean the wood up? Linseed? Lemon Oil?
Any tips? I have been using Orange oil on my Russian Mosins and that seems to work nicely.

My first M39
Classic Firearms had some m39's that were in less than perfect shape and the price was in my range so I tossed the dice. I was extremely please with the results. It's not as pretty as most of those above but I am still happy. It is a VKT D from 1941. The numbers appear to be all matching and I have ...
