Re: was I wrong?
The highest serial number found with the Tula star is 1999, the lowest serial number is 5xx I do believe. The next highest serial is in the 3 to 4xxx range and does not have the Tula star. 2 SovietSino examples were modified by China to commercial para length barrels. I have several Norinco stamped ...

Re: Pair of M1917's
I don't think I have ever said this to a guy but....nice pair. Well...don't think I have had a guy tell me that.. :chuckles: I'm just glad it wasn't one of those auctions that went stupid in prices.. The Colt was a little more, which they carry the premium typically, in my case, it was a shade less...

Off Topic
Now 30 years later I wish I had bought every Surplus SKS I could find, I could retire from the profits selling them to all the SKS collectors today.

Re: was I wrong?
Just because it's stamped Norinco doesn't always mean it's a cheap knockoff. One should never judge a SKS just by the name on the side. I have a perfect example why.. many buyers turned their nose up and passed it by, simply because it was stamped Norinco, Made in China... Sure it is stam...

Re: was I wrong?
I'm not going to say yes or no, it could have been a regular military style Type 56 or a true modified sporter, Norinco sold both military variants as well as various commercial sporters. In which some of the sporter versions today command a pretty high price, some were limited production. By limite...

Pair of M1917's
I see loads of 1911s, both commercial and old military, but I saw these listed in a little local auction the other weekend, I decided to end the year on a good note. It's fairly rare to see them, much less a set of both makes, Colt and S&W. I have seen quite a few of the later built Brazilian ma...
Re: First SKS
You'd think the Russians would have done a better job of making sure the SKS would not malfunction so easily if it got some dirt and gum inside the bolt. That was usually a big requirement for their weapons. You have to keep in mind just what a short period of time the SKS was the main battle rifle...

Re: Romanian SKS Sling?
Most of the Romanian SKS slings I have dealt with have leather tabs and a D-ring at the back end with an adjustable buckle. The Romanian Mosin slings are usually leather, with an adjustment buckle and leather dog collars in place of the D-ring set up. I have seen these slings interchanged before. Th...

Re: Italian Vetterli M70/87/15
Converted from what? Into a ????? Yes I admit, I don't know everything. :music2.gif:   Converted from a single shot 10.35x47Rmm blackpowder round, that is what it was chambered for originally in the 1870's, to a Mannlicher style clip fed 6.5x52mm Carcano. The barrel is sleeved like th...

Italian Vetterli M70/87/15
I found an Italian Vetterli M70/87/15 the other week for a little bit of nothing. It was covered in dust and some surface rust from sitting, actually it was quite nasty in the action. It took me a bit to even get the bolt out of it. I'm sure the tag on it that read "Do not shoot" scared of...

Re: SKS gas tube is stuck
While I fully agree.. some people don't, they buy it, load it, shoot till it fails, then complain what a huge hunk of crap it is. This is how I ended up......... with a few... oh, it don't fire or it slam fires, it won't cycle, it's broke, it's junk, buy it cheap, 1/2 hour later shes running like a ...

Re: SKS gas tube is stuck
No. What you see at the receiver is the transfer rod. The piston is (or should be) fully in the gas tube. When the rifle cycles, the piston slides back, pushing the transfer rod with it. The transfer rod strikes the face of the bolt body, causing it to cycle. The transfer rod is spring loaded and s...

Re: SKS Front Sight Post
The Ak/SKS sight post are both M6x.75 and pretty much interchangeable, the only difference is, typically the Ak post is just a little longer.entropy wrote:Same as the AK, FWIW. Take it out and measure it with a metric pitch & size tool.
M6x.75" according to Kensights description on Midway.

Re: Bolt action .22 with a skinny scope.
My first was a Marlin 99.... and I still have it. The old man handed me one bullet at a time.. Reloading a semiauto 1 bullet at a time sucked...I was crapping in high cotton when he handed me 3 rounds one day.
Now I can see his reasoning..

Re: Norinco TU-KKW
Thanks. I have seen these pop up once and a blue moon, but they usually vanish just as quick as they show.
There is a JW-25a.. the TU 33/40. Pull one off the bucket list, put one back on I don't think I have run across one of them yet, I only get to see them in pictures.

Norinco TU-KKW
Ok.. I can blame millman for it. Always showing off his :chuckles: ENABLER  I finally found one, have chased one for years.. and I drug it home. Not an easy rifle to find....much less find for a decent price. I always figured I would have to travel to get it, but little did I expect....

Re: Norinco M305
Neat.. I bought a Polytech M-14s a while back, this is the 22 inch barreled version. I have had no issues with it other than it empties ammo boxes quickly. I just feed it regular plain 7.62 Nato stuff. Some people love them, others detest them.. me, I don't care, it goes.. BANG :chuckles:...
