How Many Mosins in the US?

Hello, I'm looking for numbers and can't find any so far. I'm wondering how many Russian and Russian-style Mosins -- M44, 91/30, M38, etc -- are in the US now. I believe something on the order of 37 million were made. Is this correct? I'm not really counting the Finnish rifles and the pre-91/30 rifl...

Re: Is This a Bubba, or Not? What Say You?

Thanks guys. I'm not a strict preservationist like most of those here; I am still trying to decide where "Bubbaing" a rifle begins. My 91/30 has shims, an improved, Finn-style M39 type trigger, and a few other goodies. Looks stock, but it shoots better than it ever did. I don't consider it...

Is This a Bubba, or Not? What Say You?

Hello, I stumbled across this: http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/02590/ALEPPO_2590873b.jpg http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/middleeast/syria/10121751/Syria-Assad-troops-launch-heavy-assault-on-Aleppo.html I mean, it's something one might see as a "Bubba" in the US, but t...

Re: M27 Rear Barrel Bands

Thanks to Desdem, it's up for sale, $50 shipped. It is an M28 band. I do not know if there's a difference between it and the large M27 band. I would also be willing in trades for standard 91/30 triggers, or especially 91/30 front sights -- say, five or six of either or combined. If I need to, I'll p...

Re: M27 Rear Barrel Bands

Hello, Just the barrel band. I tend to accumulate Finnish parts because they found some unique solutions to problems they had with a mass-issued rifle. Before I sell it, I will CAD it and see about possibly reproducing them in the future -- though God only knows when I'd find time. No promises. So, ...

Re: M27 Rear Barrel Bands

Well heck guys, I didn't know it was rare. I only bought it because it's a Finnish innovation, and I am a fan of their work! It was advertised as an M28 + (not sure what the "+" meant). An overlay appears to have it a latter M27 -- were the latter M27 and the M28 the same? Are the M28 band...

M27 Rear Barrel Bands

Hello,

I have a later, larger M27 rear barrel band. I need one of the smaller, early ones. I would prefer to keep the large one and purchase the smaller one, but I will trade the larger one if that's the only way to get the smaller one.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Josh

Goodies

Hi All, Here are some things I've accumulated. I know what some are; others I do not. Supposedly they all go to the Mosin-Nagant, but some I've never seen. Help would be appreciated! 1. http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/o560/Smith-Sights/Private/Goodies/slingattachments.jpg What are these? I assum...

Re: Finn M28 bore Diameter

Hello, The bore really isn't the biggest deal. Lead and jacketed bullets will swage down. What you need to be concerned about is the throat. If that's at 0.308, yes, it could damage the rifle, or you. For example, and to draw a parallel, the Gewehr 88 with the "S" mark retains its old bore...

Why Do Mosin Bolts Cam Backwards As the Bolt Handle Is Lifte

Hello, Been trying to figure this out. Why are Mosins set up so that the bolt cams backwards a bit as the bolt handle is lifted? It would seem to me that this would contribute to hard-to-lift bolts, as you're simultaneously beginning extraction. Seems to me that its contemporaries, pure Mannlicher a...

Can You Help Me With This Front Sight? What Is It???

Hello, I was written with a question regarding a non-standard front sight, and I simply cannot answer it. I took some guesses but what it boils down to is that I simply have no clue as to why it's so much larger than standard. Here is the sight, and my response: http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/...

Re: best paper targets for the Mosin sights?

Hello,

Try these:

http://www.smith-sights.com/resources/target%20pack.zip

I forget what all I put in this, but they're all original designs by yours truly -- edit: I just looked; all original except for the quick'n'dirty 1/4 scale target I grabbed someplace.

Josh

Re: 7.62x54r Safe Minimum?

Hello, I appreciate it. It's not a cast boolit, however. I only cast for my .45acp and muzzleloader. Not a fan of cast boolits in rifles not originally chambered for them. (.45-70 is just fine with cast to my mind, but .30-'06, for example, isn't. Go figure.) This is the loaded round I'm playing wit...

7.62x54r Safe Minimum?

Hi All, As some of you know, I handload for the 7.62x54 rimmed Russian with great success. Most of my charges come from lots of trial and error, moreso than standard rounds because the data for this round is all over the place! One manual's minimum and is another manual's maximum for the same bullet...

Thank you for the link.

Someone bought it on the new listing... so yes, it was bought. There's a rule here about listing active auctions though, I think.

Josh may I ask what is your purpose for looking for the manual. I posted the 1954 manual on another forum and one gent wondered if there was a manual for t...

Re: Polar Bear Expedition Manual?

But wouldn't it be unlike the military to pass up an opportunity to make a manual? Seems there should be something around, especially since we produced the rifles.

Thanks,

Josh
