"Send it" (Warning: graphic)

Post by pacanis »

Not sure if this should go here or the sniper forum

First kill with my Remington VTR in .223.
150 yds, no wind, standing on a ladder using the bipod on a platform (so I could shoot over a 6' wood fence.
Hornady Zombie Max in 55 gr.

As I was walking towards the spot I thought the groundhog was at, I could see no tell-tale bump of brown fur indicating a dead groundhog.
This is why

That reminds me, it's almost time for my bacon and eggs to get here.

Yes, Varmint Tactical Rifle it stands for. The one with the triangular barrel and muzzle brake.
I've put a new scope on it since I got it, a Weaver 6.5-20. Nice scope for the $200 price range.

That is a nice rifle for the .223 & .308. With that heavy barrel and muzzle brake I would think recoil is about like a 22LR.

That is what a lot of the rockchucks looked like after I shot them with my Remington 788 223 in Idaho.

When I shot them with my 1903A3 using 125 gr Sierra ProHunter bullets, they would expode and bits would rain down all over the place for several seconds.

Time to set up the trail cam now and see if I can get some pics of the coyotes. I imagine he's ripe already in this heat.

I hope you get some pictures with your trail camera - will be interesting to see what critters show up for a free lunch. :!:

Good shooting,I hate woodchucks. They dug holes into the dirt dam around my wife's fish pond when we were on vacation and drained all the water out.Left us with an empty mud hole full of smelly dead fish and a couple of fat buzzards picking their teeth with the left over bones. :angry4: JGC

Use a modern hunting load hollowpoint 45/70 and a Marlin for the woodchucks, they explode nicely that way , then leave the bits for the next one to find

I had only shot them with 22 mags or I7 HMR's before... in spite of watching youtubes on the Varmint Grenade bullet, I was not expecting to see this. Anything that scatters them to the wind will be harder to clean up. I'd just as soon make it one shovel full
