Rerun of an old friend

Post by SA1911a1 »

The folks that have been around for a while have seen this one. As a historical oddity, this is my most interesting rifle. I have spun many tales of its possible travels in my mind. My Balkanian Baby

*M-91
*1895 Tula receiver
*1911 barrel
*Bulgarian wedge
*Serbian property mark (left of Izhevsk bow)
*Deutches Reich stamp on the stock (hard to photo, but that is what that is)
*To the right of the Izhevsk stamp what appears to me to be an old style Tula hammer. It doesn't show well in the photo, but I believe that is what it is. I am betting that Tula wanted some skin in the game when it got the 1911 barrel.

The only importation marks on the rifle is the serial number (including the F) has been duplicated on the left side of the receiver. No importer information, and I have been over it with a glass.

Perhaps some can tell me if the odd mark on the stock is a pinecone or just a ding.

This rifle has been around! maybe refurbished before the War to End All Wars, German capture WWI, trips to Serbia and Bulgaria, then to my house.

For your viewing pleasure.

I've seen the marking (if you are referring to the circle with a sort-of-star) on other "Balkan" rifles. It's a marking from some Soviet satellite/cold war country.

Here is a better photo of the German property mark that is on my rifle:

Definitely took a trip through Tula. They used an N before the serial number then, Izhevsk didn't. Looks like the serial number itself is in the font used at Tula also. Maybe a barrelled receiver made at Izhevsk and finished at Tula. Kinda the opposite of 41 "Tula" 91/30s.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.
