Best birthday present ever

Post by SA1911a1 »

49 years ago, at 11:00 in the morning, I got my best birthday present ever. That is the day I married my wonderful wife. Because of our Covid house arrest, will celebrate at home with a quiet dinner.

It was a matter of scheduling beyond my control that led me to being married, on a Thursday, on my birthday, and at 11:00 in the morning. I was between Navy boot camp and A school, and had three days at home between. We had a flight, that day, at 2:00 whisking us off to our new life. We left home with two suitcases, $300.00, and two nights reservation in a motel room in Chicago; a fragile start to say the least. My older sister had begged me not to get married at age 19 and was sure it would only last a few months at best. Our community was betting dollars to doughnuts that my wife was pregnant; it was the longest pregnancy in history as it would be ten years before our first child came......

If I die before I finish typing this line, I can not complain, life has been good to me.

Congratulations to both of you. She's an angel l, it's not easy being married to someone in the military. Here's to many more years together.

Here's a quote I read as a high school kid that for some unknown reason I've never forgotten, it's from a Robert Burns poem "Saw Ye Bonie Lesley".

"To see her, is to love her, and love her but forever, for nature made her what she is and never made anither".

Not a misspelling on my part, Anither is an old spelling for Another. Again congratulations to both of you and Happy Birthday "Ye Olde Farte".

Congrats SA (Steve) on your Anniversary and Happy Birthday. I also got married at 19 in 1974, E2 in the US Navy for about a year at the time. E2 pay was pretty sketch at that time, don't know how we made it. Still married to this day.

The whole poem.

Saw Ye Bonie Lesley
1792

O saw ye bonie Lesley,
As she gaed o'er the Border?
She's gane, like Alexander,
To spread her conquests farther.

To see her is to love her,
And love but her for ever;
For Nature made her what she is,
And never made anither!

Thou art a queen, fair Lesley,
Thy subjects, we before thee;
Thou art divine, fair Lesley,
The hearts o' men adore thee.

The deil he could na scaith thee,
Or aught that wad belang thee;
He'd look into thy bonie face,
And say-"I canna wrang thee!"

The Powers aboon will tent thee,
Misfortune sha'na steer thee;
Thou'rt like themselves sae lovely,
That ill they'll ne'er let near thee.

Return again, fair Lesley,
Return to Caledonie!
That we may brag we hae a lass
There's nane again sae bonie.

Happy Anniversary to you and your bride. Happy Birthday to you as well. We like you will be celebrating 35 next week. Instead of being in an Alaska Cruise we will cruise to the BBQ. Again all the best.

Congratulation's to both of you on beating the odd's, beating the odd's on Covid also if what I hear is happening down there is true. Nobody I know who married made it, at least friends of mine from generations after the greatest generation. Also happy birthday, I have a friend who keeps track of mine and delights in calling me on the day with one message, Happy birthday you ol' fuck. Were it not for that the day would escape my notice for a few weeks at least. :thumbsup: :thumbsup: :thumbsup:
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Congratulations indeed! :D :D
Damn, I'll bet that's going to leave a mark! Probably hurt too!

I know we argued a lot over politics but we need the milsurp experts. To much talk about how to bling out your AR over there now. Personally I miss you, posted that today.
