What kind of russian sks is this?
I bought it without the original top plate and I'm having a hard time identifying.

Someone will be along to tell you for sure, but it sure looks Russian to me. That scope mount will be like all of the others and suck. The originals, and the replacements, move around too much to be a good scope mounting surface.
“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

If you rotate the first picture you can see a Century import stamp from Russia. Without the original cover you may never know the date, serial numbers from Russia mean nothing.

Century was known for putting scopes on things that didn't originally have them. The 'x'ed out number on the stock signals a Russian refurb. But as Longcolt44 said, without the original cover, you may never know the date.

My 51 Tula has CCCP + 5 digit # on right side of receiver. The stock and paint are the same.

Awesome thanks guys! I cant find a tula mark anywhere so im thankful you have one that is similar. I kinda figured it was an early model sks.
Re: What kind of russian sks is this?
If just the stock is X-ed out, it could indicate that the original stock was found to be unsatisfactory so they replaced the stock and left the rest of the rifle alone. I have one similar to his.
Most refurb'ed rifles (the entire rifle re-arsenaled/refurbished) have a blackened bolt, bolt carrier and bayonet blade; nothing was left chrome (bayo blade) or "in-the-white" (bolt) and they were coated with some kind of black stoving/paint or ...I forget.
No SKS was stamped "CCCP" from the factory but some of the early imports were engraved by the importer with "CCCP" plus a new serial number that does not match the original. The reason being if I understand correctly was because the inability of translating the Cyrillic letters to English. The new serial numbers for all intents and purposes are the official serial number (according to the ATF) and are what is recorded on firearm transaction forms.
See if you can find a Russian or otherwise plain receiver cover plus a blade bayonet and screw and enjoy that rifle.

My 1951 had a replacement stock on it with a date very faded saying it was from 1955.
