SVT gas tool

Post by Sonny »

Do you need the proper gas tool to set the gas setting on an SVT or is there another method?

Get the proper tool before you tear it up using another type of wrench. Reproductions are $20

Black River Gunsmithing in Ohio is the best. Less than $20 shipped to Canada. I paid $15 shipped to the states.

Just be careful they all are not equal. Chinese made ones will tear it up as bad as vice grips. Black River makes theirs.

Lever Arms has them along with the sight tool for 50 bucks. P&S Militaria supposedly have them for 25 but I can't find it on the website.

$50 for an original is a good price. They many times sell for double that.

I just take the gas system apart and adjust it like that. Mainly to prevent erosion of the two bearing surfaces where the valve and valve stem contact. That's just me though.

I found one in Manitoba for $40,buddy is going to mail it to me.

I've ordered stuff from the US before but what kills us now is our low dollar

A stock from Boyds after dollar exchange + tax + shipping + duty ended up costing me double. :o

It was nice a few years ago when our dollar was par and even a bit more for awhile.

Hey Sonny
I had my svt out on the weekend and used 1.5 gas setting. That crappy Chinese ammo worked with no issues until the firing pin seized up. I had to strip the bolt and clean everything up because it was nasty in there.
Good luck!

We're in Edmonton this weekend and that Chinese crap is everywhere. Glad to hear the gun works with it!
