Czech Persian Contract Mauser

Post by capt14k »

Just picked up this 98/29 for half the price of what I see them selling for and it came with 120 rounds of 1953 Yugo 8mm and a Soft Case. Deals are out there for those who are patient.

I understand the way to tell it is Czech Made, without knowing how to read Farsi, is: Stock is Beech instead of Walnut, Rear Sight is in Farsi Numbers instead of Roman, and Matching Bolt has Circle Z on underside of handle.

Farsi Numbers appear to be all matching. I admittedly don't know a lot about these so any input would be great. The bore is pristine. Curious as to what the roman numbers on the stock are?

A friend told me the Roman Numbers indicate it served with a Persian Police Force under British Command during WWII in the Southern Part of Iran.

Put that one up on youtube, you will have Iranians asking you why you have their rifle. I get that about the Persian M30 carbine. I am guessing the assitola, or maybe the shah before him forgot to tell them they were selling the rifles to the west.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Thank you. It is super smooth. Only one comparable is the Portuguese Mauser Vergueiro, but that one is a cross between a Mauser and Mannlicher.
