Two nice M39's I just got
Two nice M39's I just got
Number one is a Straight stock example of a Sako 1941 serial 2010xx with CAI import marks. Not a Sako marked stock but a wartime splice with crossed cannons and the letter L in it. Has a couple of smaller knothole repairs to the stock and comes with an old worn grey blue leather M39 sling installed. The bolt is Finn matched and the butt plate is scrubbed and the mag is mismatched. I have heard of counter bored M39's but this is the first one I have seen and owned with about a 1 and 1/2 counter bore on an otherwise nice bore. The rear sight is an early 28/30 sight missing the 3 graduation and with a Sako marking on it. The front sight is marked 6.6 as is the barrel so it hasn't been changed after the armory people set it. The bolt is mostly Westinghouse parts and the receiver is a Chatellerault with a 1894 date so it is an antique too. Trigger is really nice and I look forward to a range trip or two. It is CAI import marked near the lower muzzle end.
Number two is also a Sako with a 1945 date and a serial of 2590xxand a Finn matched bolt. It is CAI import marked and in an unmarked post war stock that is quite lite in weight and seems to be maybe a different than normal hardwood of some kind. The mag plate is not matching and the butt plate is scrubbed. It has a nice dimpled Finnish no jam early mag and the bolt and trigger work so smoothly. The bore is ultra shiny and the trigger works great. The receiver is an Izhevsk from 1931 and the front sight is marked 7.9 while the barrel is marked 9.7. Kind of feel some very tired armorer transposed some numbers in one place or the other. It is also SA marked on the badge plate. I* had a nice 1945 Sako a long time ago but traded it away and I will not do that with this one as not many were made.
Both these were from a private collection and not from Classic and they are sound nice rifles which should shoot great and fill holes in my collection. Bill

Nice haul, I have found & bought 3 Finns since early March. A nice 34 Izhevsk 91/30, 1944 Sako M39 in a post war stock with a
1912 Tula reciever and yesterdays haul a 1941 VKT M39 post war stock 1906 Tula reciever. The prices are $250, $300 and
$275 respectively. I've only seen 3 M39s I the wild since I started collecting in March 2013 and bought 2 in as many months.
The disease is progressing and the fixes are shorter lived.

Take a break, buy a new digital camera and shoot some pics. It's 2016, cameras are very easy to use now, even the Old Man here who is 90 a few days ago can use one. Cameras aren't expensive anymore either. These from the collection of your friend Kevin who passed? Good haul both of you, M39's are never a bad investment so long as purchased right.
He's 90 Bill, can't work the damn telephone half the time but he can use my Canon point and shoot, what's your excuse? Time to start the pictures flowing to make all the gun porn enthusiasts happy.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

He's even learned how to plug the camera onto the little cord that connects it to the computer and follows the instructions in the window that pops up to load the pictures into the computer. He even knows how to use his cell phone to take a picture and send it to someone.

It really hurts to know you are 100% right. I am a great procrastinator, a real lousy photographer, and so bad my ex-wife kept all camera's and would never let me touch any of them. I bought one for my cross country motorcycle trip and promptly accidently dumped all the pictures I took on it. I still have the camera, somewhere? I bought a water proof one, Yeah because I dumped one in the pool once too. I just don't like camera's and avoid them like the plague and for sure really suck at using them. I really bought a review magazine on them maybe a month or so ago with all thoughts on getting one. I spent the money though and also bought a new to me van to replace the 240,000 mile Toyota truck I have used for years. Give me a little more time and maybe I will think of some more excuses!
