Food for the Swiss Vetterli, Model 1869.
Not really. I will not open. But I can attempt to fire some loose rounds this spring. I have several that look like they were already attempted once. I will rotate those, and try them first. Then a few fresh ones if that doesn't work. But I will fire ALL my rifles in my collection at least once.
These two packs I found yesterday were supposed to have been made on August 2, 1892. I am so happy to have these.

Looks like the stuff Bannerman was selling in 1903, nice find, don't bother trying to shoot it, it won't, and it's worth keeping to display with the rifle.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

One of those 10 round unopened packs would sell at a pretty good price on Gunbroker I bet. That is a nice find.

Thanks for sharing those ammo pics. Nice find. I tried to fire some old ammo like that a few times . The second one mis-fired and stuck firmly in the barrel. Did get it out with a bit of a struggle. Good Luck JGC

Wonderful find. I have an 1871 Swiss Vetterli, I know how hard it is to find ammo for them.

Wow look at those big beautiful rimfire cartridges. Black powder inside isn't it?

That would be my guess. But I don't know for sure.

Rimfire? Can the brass be cloned somehow?
Things could be worse. Work to keep from finding out how much worse.
