1944 Tula PU ex-sniper?

I have a 1944 Tula ex-sniper with all the right markings on it but with a straight bolt, not bent, I have pictures and will attach as soon as I can figure out how to do that, has anyone ever heard of this done? The only numbers lined out are on the trigger unit and stamped to match the rest of the bolt, receiver etc. The receiver also has the CH stamped above the Russian star too. I believe its a PU setup from what I see inside the receiver. Again will try to get pics posted.

Nothing wrong with a straight bolt on an ex-sniper, very consistent with what you would expect to see in that case. When the rifle was taken out of sniper service, it very likely would have been fully capable of continuing to perform as a standard infantry rifle, so the bent bolt would have been traded out for a standard straight bolt. Would love to see some pictures of the whole rifle.

As stated above it was removed from sniper duty and refurbished for further duty as an infantry rifle. The replacement bolt was force matched or maybe even a new bolt that was stamped to match the barrel number. They force matched rifles a few different ways. Read this, it explains it fairly well. http://www.russian-mosin-nagant.com/ref ... index.html

Probably but without more pictures of it, especially of the whole rifle I can't say for sure. We have a rule around here. Lots of pictures!! We're addicts and need to feed to monster. :D

Thought I'd post a picture of my 15 year old daughter shooting the 1944 Tula ex-sniper, she's in JROTC here and is on the color guard squad also. 2 older brothers, both Marines, 1 reserves and 1 active duty.

What's up with the barrel shank color & the plugged scope mount holes? Could we get a few more pics? The color contrast has me a bit intrigued on this one.

Thats what actually got my attention first, I checked out about 4 rifles before I saw this one and then took some pics after putting it on hold for me, did some research and took it home. I will get some better pictures up when I get time, have not seen another one like this and I am pretty sure it was not scrubbed or whatever and then re-marked over again, all markings look original to the receiver and rest of rifle other then the bolt which is straight and probably re-marked to fit rest of rifle markings, any help would be appreciated on this and thanks, PS it shoots great, just ask my daughter.

That barrel shank looks a lot like the plum colored "B" barrel Finn m91 or m39s. Very interesting for sure. That's great that your daughter is into shooting these too. I have a hard time getting my sons to want to shoot the Mosins and my 15 year old is bigger than me! He likes the "tamer" guns like the AK or AR.

Ok now I am interested in what I have here, what with the "plum" colored barrel as that is exactly the color it is, been trying to get a good color description for this and thats it, any further ways or leads to investigate this? Thanks.

Can you take the top handguard off and post some pictures of the whole barrel? This color is normal for an SVT 38 or 40 bolt. This is the first I have seen on a barrel.

A few more pictures, I can see that the color extends onto the barrel itself and that the barrel has been painted black too, will try to take some more pictures in daylight to get better contrast and color, what do I have?

The black brushed on paint was done during the refurb process and was basically a cheap rebluing substitute for areas were the bluing had worn off or rust had started.

Thats what I thought too, its just on the barrel end where it meets the wood of the hand guard and stock. Also found that the plum color might be due to some kind of contamination's in a re-bluing process but that does not explain why the color is also present at the covered over screw holes for the removed scope does it? Any ideas on this?
