Where do you guys find these? I can’t find one to save my life!

You see them on GunBroker. Every couple of months one will show up. I think one sold last week, or so. A 1914 I think. Other than that, you need to keep your eyes open and, anymore, have a thick wallet.Herpto wrote:Where do you guys find these? I can’t find one to save my life!

Here is mine I picked up recently. Tula 1898. EP'd bolt. Digit 5.
Here are pictures:
I'm not too sure on the stock type, but I believe it is the Czech blonde stock. It has numbers in a square above the buttplate.

They all have the box 17 and box 20 stamps on the top of the butt stock (as do the 91/59's-at least most of them). This likely means that the stock was reworked by the Czechs and could mean that the carbines were entirely done by them. But the word on that is still out... The Stock could be a cut down M-91 stock, an M-38 stock or an M-44 stock. The escutcheons, finger grooves and bayonet grooves tell the true story. The 1898's aren't as common as some others. It seems that they used an awful lot of 1899's for some reason.

Is there a theory or factual reason why these were all made from Imperial pre-'17 rifles ?neal45 wrote:Nice clean 91/38 heptoras, thanks for posting.

I don't know if anyone knows for sure. But they have been found later than pre 1917.
The following late ones have been posted.
1917 Remington (two)
1920 Izhevsk

Hi, I picked up another M91/38. This one is made by Izhevsk in 1897. Looks to be in a blonde M44 stock.

Thanks heptoras, I have added it to the database.
Does it have a stamped or electro-pencilled serial on the bolt?

Sorry about that. Just took some new photos of my 1897 Izhevsk, here is the link:This link doesn't work. Did you delete the photos? I'd be interested to see them.
Image #9 shows some Czech markings on the left side of the stock. My 1898 Tula doesn't have these markings. Could this be one of the Czech blonde stocks?

The circle KK stamp seems to be more linked to Bulgaria more so than Czechoslovakia. There has been some comparisons with Bulgarian weapons and equipment that have the same markings lately.heptoras wrote: ↑Wed Feb 05, 2020 10:26 pmSorry about that.
