Spanish Civil War Mosin

I believe I just acquired a Spanish Civil War Mosin. It has, however faint, the flaming bomb / MP8 cartouche on one side of the stock and the Tula Star 1936 cartouche on the other side of the stock. There are no import markings on it. It has the SCW style sling hangers, Barrel and receiver both dated 1936. The barrel and the buttplate have matching serial numbers. The stock looks unfinished as compared to refurbished mosins. It has only one pin in the side of the rear sight. Picked this one up sight unseen for $200.

Any thoughts or info?

Yes a early one with hex Tula receiver, and it looks like a lot of Tula marked parts too. Very nice. I think you did good at 200.00

Nice SCW Mosin.

I noticed they didn't put any crests on it, I wonder if they left them off knowing it was going to Spain.

Most all parts are marked Tula except the bolt, cleaning rod and magazine spring....

Wow, only 174 apart...go figure! :-)

Because of the front sling mount I cannot disassemble completely...I was able to see under the tang to see that the receiver is Tula 1936 (matching the barrel date). After a cleaning, the barrel is a bit dark, but the lands and grooves look great.....also noticed "E0234" stamped on the bottom of the barrel. Overall it's in pretty decent condition.

:-)

I don't want to be a wet blanket........or a kibbitzer.........but shouldn't it have either a "Made in USSR" or "Made in URRS" stamp on the barrel and/or receiver? I didn't see any in the pics.........or did I miss it?

That stamp confirms it is a SCW rifle but a lot of rifles never received the stamp but there are other traits that point to its SCW origin. The overall look, no import mark, mp8 cartouche, sling hangers, 1936 that falls into a known serial number batch.

This is the second one of these I have seen today. Both are 36 Tula SCW's, and the other one is missing the front hanger. Yours was had for $50 less than the other one. Congrats!

The "Made in USSR/URRS" stamps are at best on maybe, maybe 25% of SCW 91/30 Mosins. Everything here point (in this case pretty much proves) to the fact that this is a SCW rifle.

No "MI8" under buttplate
