best cast bullet, powder, powder weight for 7.62x54r

Post by jonnyboy091373 »

The title says most of it. I'm having a hard time finding jacketed bullets for reloading, so was looking into cast bullets, as I can find those. What types of powder and powder weight are best for 180-200 grain gas checked bullets?
thanksin advance for the help. :)

I load a Lee#312-185 that I size to .312 with a Lee sizer. Powered by 5744. This is a published load in the Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook. Start at 21.5 Max at 30.5 The CBA 2013 Postal Match results showed the same bullet powered by AL 2400 scoring a 93-3X on the 200 yd As Issued*Military Bench rest. Also a published load, he used 19g in his Finn. Another shooter used SR4759 with a Lyman 314299 a 200g bullet.I also load Hornady 150 g FMJBT #3037 but its not yet tested
*sights are as issued no mods to the gun is allowed.

I have the same Lee 312-185 gas check bullet mold and I like it. I have been loading some with 2400 powder but I can't remember my load off hand. Shoots great at 50 & 100 yards.

Im thinking the same as the OP. I DONT want to cast my own bullets. Rather I would like to try ready made bullets and reload with them.

With this in mind how about some suggestion on where to purchase ready made bullets that are suitable for our MN?

Thanks,
