M9130 1942 Tula

M9130 1942 Tula

The basic surface wipe down and bore cleaning is complete, detailed field strip next.

This rifle appears to have been arsenal refurbished or it was never used in combat field conditions ?

The blueing is in excellent condition and the metal and stock are in excellent condition as well.

It is NOT counter-bored and the rifling (lands & groves) is well defined with a very good crown. :thumbsup:

The head space and firing pin are GO .....

Dry cycled Five (5) dummy rounds and fired One (1) live rounds with no cycling or firing issues,
One (1) round expended, bore clear, no causalities :!:

That's a good looking rifle Paul. You should have a great time shooting it. The barrel and bore are like my first Mosin- shiny and new looking.

Sweet looking Tula, was that rear escutcheon re-located or is that a repair above it? Cool looking splice on the butt also. :vcool: :vcool:

Interesting repair on the stock butt above the Sling Escutcheon, arsenal or original :?:

Looks like it's been refurbished, see attached picture of stock refurbishment marking....

The Bluing looks new ?

Looks like they had to repair something they screwed up during production. Some FNG's first day on the production line probably :)
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.

It's a Soviet refurb in the typical style, the stock is late war, or post war replacement, 1942 original stocks mostly had no metal protecting the sling slots at all, or just a small strip on the front one. Errors like that happen, and you don't waste an otherwise good stock blank because of it. Especially not the cheap commie bastards. Remember that with the refurns the parts were mixed around during the process, that stock was either brand new, or on another rifle before this one. As a rule, if you see reddish shellac on a 91/30, M38 or M44 stock, then this will be a refurb.

Stock repairs are a plus by the way, they make the rifle more interesting :)

Brake clean will kill the wood finish, on metal it can remove the black paint used by the Soviets to fix bluing problems.
