Chatellerault made 2000 or so bayonet scabbards for a trials run early on in M91 production, and both the Austrian's & German's made some for there WW1 captured M91's that where reissued to there troops, but those are pretty much it. I have seen the one you have a pic of and I have been told it isn't a bayo scabbard for a MN, but rather a French rifle that took the "needle" style bayonet that they used in WW1.

Here is a link to a Chatellerault Scabbard,

And I added 1 to many "0" to the trials run, it should read 200, not 2000.

Thanks for the Background data, actually my 1934 Izhevsk Hex, Bayonet does not fit into the scabbard all the way to the bottom, so it may be the French model :?:

Hard to be 100% certain from just that pic but your scabbard appears to be a reproduction of the Finnish bayonet scabbard.

Here's an original Austrian straight slot bayonet made for captured M91's, as well as the scabbard it would have been held in. The scabbard is nice because it still has the original green paint on it and the bayonet is still covered in grease. This came paired with an 1896 Tula M91 in near original condition with the pre-1908 flat rear sight. The rifle has some Austrian markings on the buttplate and the bayonet probably has been paired with that bayonet/scabbard for some time.

I've seen a few Austrian's and have heard mention of Finnish made (leather) scabbards, from several sources.

It appears in most photos that the Russians never removed them!

The Soviets had canvas scabbards for the Mosin bayonets. They are pretty rare, and appear to be an early WW2 "ersatz" type emergency pattern, like the PU scope covers with the tie strings instead of buckles and the canvas ammo pouches. And like the tie string scope covers and canvas ammo pouches, the ones that are usually encountered were made but then stored away somewhere and never issued, and are in mint condition.

As you can see this Scabbard does not appear to be built for a Mosin Nagant Bayonet :?: :?
