Re: Thread for Matching Bayonets to Rifles (Sticky)
In Canada we got a few shipments of M91/30's with all matching serial number bayonets, I have a about 4 that are all matching with excellent bores as well. I think that these were refurbed and kept together until shipped here.
Re: Thread for Matching Bayonets to Rifles (Sticky)
I've got a nice M27 bayonet and scabbard that I'd be willing to trade to get a matching serial number. Must be a correct M27 in trade - I know it's a long shot, but you never know what will turn up.
I have bayonet 48924.
I need bayonet 23625.

Dehunter - that "backwards 7" might be a " Γ " , which is the Russian equivalent to "G".

Re: Thread for Matching Bayonets to Rifles (Sticky)
I'm wondering if there were so many millions of the rifles made, how many millions (possibly more?) of the bayonets were made? The older your rifle, it seems the less likely that the original bayonet survived?

Cool Old Guns - That letter you're unsure of is likely one of two characters: either the " ж " (pronounced "zh" as in treasure) you posted, or possibly a "x" (pronounced as an "h" with phlegm - like you're clearing your throat, as with the German "ch").

Re: Thread for Matching Bayonets to Rifles (Sticky)
I was researching Arsenal Marks and Serial numbers earlier and read that serial numbers started over at "1" every year
( http://7.62x54r.net/MosinID/MosinSerial.htm ). I'm wondering if the serial numbers for bayonets did the same? Otherwise there might be multiple rifles for a given serial number out there (just different years), and only one (or two?) bayonet(s) for that particular serial number.

Re: Thread for Matching Bayonets to Rifles (Sticky)
I picked up bayonet S/N 1912 yesterday.
The two charachters preceeding the S/N appear to be "HA", however 7.62x54R states that
H is n as in not, and the second symbol is d as in do.
I don't really require any bayonets, however the S/N’s I have in rifles are:
3997 (Tula, Peter the Great, 1915)
2787 (Tula, 1930)
9782 (Finn M91, 1942)
1291 (Tula, 1944)
