The simple answer is, Yes. To date the snipers that Rguns has are the only snipers that have been accepted by collectors as the real deal. Some others may have all Russian parts but the Rguns have had the paper trail verified.

Most importantly, they have no affiliation with Mitchells Mausers at all.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

What's Molot's affiliation with Mitchell Mausers? Did they sell MM Russian captured Mauser parts for assembly or something?

No......Mitchell's is now selling Molot sniper rifles, and each one comes with a "Mitchell's Certificate of Provenance". ;mywink; That makes them "real"

Probably the same batch Molot is selling to Aim and Classic is my guess. As long as MM doesnt tamper with them after they get em' from Molot, it's probably not a problem, but yeah, given their reputation I'd steer clear and go with a different vendor. Though bait + switch nonsense is a lot tougher with snipers (there's a lot they have to get right to pull it off).

No,....Molot is not an exporter or an importer. The importer is who is selling them to Aim, Classic, and Mitchell's.

Molot is a private company that does a lot of the same work as Mitchell's does here on Mauser.

What I meant is I'm fine with the way the rifles are coming over, but what I'd be worried about is if a disingenuous company alters them once they're delivered. For example, if you had a crooked company it could take off a pristine (valuable) WWII era scope and replace it with a crappy PU scope with a subpar reticle or a cloudy view or just in very worn shape or something. As long as they didnt guarantee the scopes match the rifle, that sort of thing could happen, leaving you with a mismatch and a crappy scope, and leaving then with a scope they could easily sell for $325. That might not be a great example, but my point is there's all sorts of monkey-business that could happen to the rifle once it reaches the American shore if the importer is crooked.

Speaking of Molots, today I saw one on sale here in Australia, going for nearly US$2500!! Known repo PUs on a regular mosin fetch around US$1300-1600.

Hi,
Has anyone purchased one from RGUNS?
How are they,
Numbers matching?
Condition?
Do they hand pick?
Would you recommend one from them?
Now I have to get permission from my wife . :Drool1:
Thanks,
Fred

Welcome to the board. The short answer is, yes the RGuns are real by collector standards in that there's a paper trail showing where they came from. There's quite a few on this board that have been purchased. No they don't offer hand pick anymore. They are highly recomended especially if you want one that's considered authentic without question in a time when the market is being flooded by rifles that have questionable origins. Condition on them varies but is overall good in most cases. They're matching rifles for the most part. They are after all rifles that have been through the refurb program. They've retained a far amount of their original parts as they tried to keep them together on PUs but as with refurbs some parts are replacements and have been force matched. This is perfectly acceptable. There's a few posts here you may want to look through. viewforum.php?f=52 specifically this one viewtopic.php?f=52&t=3465

Hi all,
Yesterday I got my sniper from RGUNS.
Now keep in mind I have never used or owned a 91/30.
The gun is in nice condition but one thing took me by surprise.
When retracting the bolt to it's fully open position the bolt is "sloppy as hell" in the receiver. It feels like it will almost fall out
on it's own (it does not).
Is this normal :?:
thanks,
Fred

Fred, congrats on your rifle. Yes that is normal. Study the design and notice that the bolt is nearly ready for removal at that point. Then it locks up tight again when closed. The loose assembly tolerances on Mosins is why they were able to remain usable when temps dropped down to zero. Welcome to the forum.

Thanks,
I think this rifle would fire on the planet Pluto :chuckles:

yes, everything does tighten up when the bolt is locked.
What would you use to clean off the cosmoline?
I plan on taking everything apart for cleaning. Mineral Spirits? Then oiling?
Also ammo from RGUNS. Ok?
thanks,
Fred
