Back in 1991 I picked up a M1 Garand from the DCM for about $95.00 plus shipping. I've only fired about two 8 round clips through the rifle after I first received it. I haven't fired it since. There is a stamp on the barrel in the chamber area "S A 7-41". I most likely won't fire it again.

Yeah, I'd like to show off my M1 Garand here but I posted a comment on my M1 a month ago but never received a comment yet. Why should I take time to do anymore?

So your barrel is stamped Jul 41, does the serial number match up with the barrel date also? I'm guessing between a 200,000 to 300,000 serial number....

Cool that it is a pre Pearl Harbor rifle. How many of the parts are of the correct vintage/manufacturer on it? Type 1 lockbar or later rear sight?

Not fire it ever again? Why not? The sort of casual range time we give these old battle rifles isn't going to hurt them, most of us are not even shooting corrosive milsurp ammo in them, just easy civilian rounds. That's fine so long as you get an adjustable gas plug to regulate the pressure when not shooting milspec rounds in the M1. I shot all of my M1's, including the former DCM H&R, and the pre 1941's, I shot them a lot and will shoot them some more. Being a DCM rifle, and I bet some of the younger members have no clue what that means, ( look it up) does not enshrine a rifle with any special meaning. It's history in the hands of GI Joe does enough of that, GI Joe who took these rifles and kicked the shit out of Hitlers boys, and Tojo's minions, then went on to hand a beating or two to the Commie Chinese and their DPRK shitheal friends, and even helped our allies in the Arvn do.....stuff. Honor their memory by firing off a few rounds on the fourth of July like I will be doing.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.
