"Made in Russia" marking on 1943 Tula PU Sniper

Post by S62malF4R »

I saw this strange "Made in Russia" marking on a 1943 Tula PU Sniper.
I have never seen it before. Does anyone know what it is/means?

I'm not a sniper expert, but that looks like one of the Molot imports. That simply means what it says. Made in Russia.
“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Scroll down to the Molot section of the link provided. It's the knowledge base section of the russian mosin nagant-forum, and will answer some of your questions for your rifle.

Not a Molot sniper (I don't think").

It looks like a Tulsky Sniper. See the T in the circle inside the triangle.
That is Tulsky's mark.

"TULSKY PATRONNY ZAVOD", JSC
Imported by: PW Arms, IO
Sold by: SAMCO, AIM, Classic Arms, Royal Tiger Imports
Exported out of Russia.

At a certain point, Russian demanded that they put "made in Russia" on them.

Duh, my brain got stuck on Molot for some unexplained reason......Not enough sleep!

Edit to add: Ah Millman made the initial Molot remark and I just followed in line.

That is why I prefaced it with "I'm no expert".
Bottom line is... It means what it says.

This is a pretty good video on the Tulsky. I had read some place that there was a Tula involvement with these rifles. Lots of information here that you can compare to your gun. This OP showed up several years ago and seems to have good knowledge.
