Marlin 39-a
Marlin 39-a
I ran across this 39 at a flea market the other day.Ive wanted to buy one of these for awhile and was too tight to turn loose of the money. I decided they were not getting cheaper and I wasn't getting any younger. You guessed it, I probably paid way too much for it but it's at my house now. I shot this target at our 25 yd sight in range. Never turned a Schwerin on the scope. Think I got a keeper. Here is the rifle and my target. Cliff

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Yes you do; definitely a keeper.
Re: Marlin 39-a
Nice looking example. What year is it? My Original Golden-39M was made in 1973.

Re: Marlin 39-a
I had one of these as a kid. It had a straight grip though and not the semi-pistol grip stock like all the others I've seen. IIRC it was a Golden Edition also. I wish I had it now.
Nice 22. Enjoy!

Re: Marlin 39-a
Did the 39A come with the grip and 39M without the grip? Is that the main difference, along with the lever being different, obviously?

I just use a pencil and save ammo. I have pencils in several calibers. If I am having a good day I group well, other times I will have some flyers.

Looking at all these 39A's and I find myself wanting one.
