Authentic or fake bayonet

Post by collector 30 or 60 »

I'm hoping it's authentic, but perhaps you will all know better than I if this Leningrad bayonet is the real deal, or a fake. Either way, it's a conversation piece when I put it on my 91/30 at the range. Looking forward to your input.

I'm not a bayonet expert but ... I have seen these bayonets before. Not very common at all.
As far as "Fake", I don't know of anyone who has made "fakes" of this bayonet. Just too difficult to make.
Too bad it is in such poor shape. But, better like that then not at all!

It is heavily rusted, but the spring and latch work. It did take a fair bit of oil and time to get it unseized. From what I've read they're all in poor shape as they were thrown away/buried toward WW2's end as they were non-standard Soviet equipment.

A long bath in Evaporust will clear some of that up, at least the active rust. The pits will remain, but that just gives it a nice war relic patina.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.
