New to me M44
New to me M44
My buddy called me yesterday and asked if I wanted to buy a rifle. I told him to bring it by. He showed up with this fresh looking refurbed 1948 M44. I have another 1948 that is not refurbed so it's kinda neat having one of each. Here are some quick pics. Nothing outrageous or out of the ordinary here. Just a nice example.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Re: New to me M44
I remember when I was still accumulating M44's by year and arsenal, and so on. Now I would need to first find a gold mine, or strike oil. I found every year pretty easily, even 1943, it was 1947 that held me up the longest.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Cool, You can't beat that. Home delivery and all.
Just, how I got mine, nice and shiny. From, friend of a friend. Yet, about 8-10yrs. ago, almost Big5 price.
May I ask, what you paid?. Interested, in Buddy prices vs. going rate in this day and age...of crazy $$$ on GB.

I gave him $300. That's what he asked, so I figured that's how much he needed. Like I said, he's a buddy.

Hello,
That's a win, win for both parties involved. Thanks for the info.

I looked on GB and the M44s that actually had bids were between $300-$400 with some time left on the auctions. The ones with starting bids over $400 had no bids. I didn't lookup any completed auctions.

I found a '46 and '47 by dumb luck, but a '48 has eluded me. A '43 is just a pipe dream.

A local gun shop here at some 91/30s listed for $430 a while ago, they were also selling some M44s for the same price.
