I'm Retired!!!

Post by Darryl »

Officially Retired!

40 years and 9 months at this job alone. 53 years working total.

I got home a week ago Friday and guess what was on my fence.

I guess he was there to say "you made it"!

Cool, now you need to take up a hobby. Maybe golf or gun collecting.

So far this last week, I've worked harder then I have in a long time! But it feels great because it's for me, not someone else!

Some of the things we are looking at (my wife retires in January) is, we are thinking of moving out of the State. Just can't do this State anymore and I don't have any relatives here any more. Maybe in the next two years or so. Gives me time to fix the house up nice.

I spent the entire week on the back yard last week. It looks great now and my wife has big ideas for the front and side yards (for me!) :chuckles:

But I work till I decide im done for the day. Usually before it hit 90 degrees outside. I can't take the heat!.

People ask how’s retirement?
I reply “I highly recommend it. “
Most of us like a part one job, my ex-cop friend works as a starter on a golf course so he can golf for free.
I work as a dock master on a fishing dock so I can fish anytime they are biting.

I was told (by a guy retired now almost 20 years) That the first 6 weeks are great. Then it will get harder finding things to keep you busy. Now, this guy was a Captain of a super tanker ship so he was used to working 24 hours a day for long periods of time. So he may have some distorted ideas!.

Me, It's been fun to say

"ah Hell, I quite for the day!"

Congratulations and well deserved. I called it quits in March of 2018 after almost 45 years; I don't miss it. I suspect you want either. Enjoy! :P

I must be a strange bastard.....I was medically retired at age 42 (I'm talking no more working period), here I am age 52 now and I still miss being deployed, still miss the marathon trips across the globe (Two 18 hour jaunts in a MC-130E after 911 to get where we were going). Still miss putting in 18 hour days, dealing with my aircrew and keeping their survival equipment 100% ready. Teaching dployed location specific survival training and E&E procedures.

Everytime something happened somewhere, my unit called me and asked "Do you want it?", and off I went to another shithole.....Yet I was happy about it.

Neither my family or my coworkers thought I would make more than a year after I was retired.

Congrats Darryl! Being retired can be a lot of work but it's your kind of work because like you said below, you're doing it for you.

Welcome! I started full time work at 17, and worked summer holidays before that for my Dad. When I turned 60, I retired after 12 1/2 yrs. in the RCMP, then went back as a Reservist, worked for another 5, basically full time, but in several different detachments. Packed it in at 65, mostly because I had lost my sense of smell. I still work for a big farm Spring and Fall. I love having free time to doodle with my guns.

Enjoy your retirement. All the trials and tribulations you've come through will serve you with wisdom and experience.
GOOD RIDDANCE LGR!! If there isn't a gun range in heaven, then I'm going to hell.
