Is it just me? I can look at 20 rifles, 19 having pristine stocks and one having repairs, and I get excited over the one with repairs. The more elaborate and intricate the repairs the happier I get. I'm talking Arsenal repairs here, not modern day repairs.
Like repaired stocks with the finger joints, dove tails etc. Some of the repairs leave me wondering how the hell they got the joints so tight and neat. These people were masters in their own rights, hell I can't take two pieces of flat wood, join them together without it looking like a Kindergarten art project.
Maybe we can post some stock repair pictures under a sticky topic to highlight the skills of these unknown master carpenters.

Re: Stock Repairs?
I'm with you on this one. I always snag the one with odd splices all else being equal.
On Facebook? Check out the non-sporter preservationist group at: OOOPS. Deleted by Facebook because it's evil to even discuss collectible firearms on social media these days.

The "Been there, Done that" look. Yep, I'm a fan too.

I've got an "Balkan Capture" K98k with a repaired buttstock. The lower repair is from right to left, the upper patch is on the left side only. Both repairs are held in with wood dowels/pegs.
I've got a few Mosin Nagants with stock work, I need to get to them and take some pictures.

Re: Stock Repairs?
Even though they aren't repairs, I like the looks of the FInn "FInger-joint" stocks, both rounded and square.

Re: Stock Repairs?
I agree with you there! I recall on one forum someone had one that came apart, and it was cool to see how they were done. I, whether right or wrong, include these under repairs.entropy wrote:Even though they aren't repairs, I like the looks of the FInn "FInger-joint" stocks, both rounded and square.

Re: Stock Repairs?
I don't have a lot of stock repairs, but as a collector, I don't let it bother me one way or another especially if it is a rare rifle. Same as a muzzle repair (counter boared). All part of the rifles history.
I think I only have one...... hummmm, I though I had more.

Re: Stock Repairs?
I like to get stocks with repairs.
Two of mine that stand out are,
Remington in a NEW stock. And two repairs on this 1932 M91/59.
