Nice collection. I find it much more enjoyable finding a diamond in the rough rather than paying high prices for Unissued. I've done both. Today if it isn't a great deal I'm not buying. Rifles must match for me, but I like the field used look.

The only milsurp rifle I have with a scope on it is the Hungarian PU, beyond that I reserve scopes for my commercial sporters. Never got into collecting sniper variants, probably the early influence of all the GI Joes who were around when I was growing up, none had been a sniper. Steve, your retired, do you really still need a car? Sell it and buy a Garand and '03.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Never mind that matching numbers crap, that's anal retentive European nonsense, here in GI Joes USA the only number on the weapon that matters is the one on the receiver. Giving it a think I don't recall the Italians doing it either, probably the influence of Beretta, the oldest gunmaker in the world.

I actually sold most of my American Rifles due to the lack of numbered parts. There weren't that many, but I had a M1917 Eddystone and Remington 03A3 that I sold. I kept the the 1956 SA Garand which was all correct except the bolt. Now the bolt is correct too.

Maybe I am slightly OCD. When I bought my French MAS Rifles I searched for not only all matching, but marked and matching. Unmarked replacement parts wouldn't do. Same goes for Finns. All my M/39 Rifles have matching bolt, barrel, floor plate, and original stamped receiver (no dot matrix except on one). Even the K98k BNZ45 Kriegsmodel I have, that is all matching, original, and correct, bothers me because all the parts weren't numbered. Obviously I understand why. I'm actually surprised they numbered as many parts as they did. However I would much rather have an early war K98k that is matched down to the screws.

It goes to show, you can build a nice selection of old obsolete, rusty guns, on a tight budget. Of course, if the mileage was factored in, they would average probably a grand apiece. :)

Yea, that "our rifle" thing came back to bite the goverment in the butt until bailed out by WWI. There are those who swear that the Americans made the best Mauser ever produced. I bet the Germans grind their teeth over that.
We did make the best Mauser even produced  actually many fine Mauser's were made outside of Germany. Belgium, Turkey, Sweden, just to name a few.
The Swedes made the true works of art.
I own a Swedish Mauser, it's nice, but not my 1913 Rock Island Arsenal US M1903 nice. Everyone is used to seeing '03's as they are after ten government overhauls, they had a different look when first issued. Bluing, tiger striped dark walnut stock, excellent fit. My 1913 is a WW1 bringhome never overhauled, nothing changed since 1913. I was fortunate to be able to acquire it from the man himself who brought it home back many years ago. Work of art even after fighting a war.

Bet my Swedes are easier on the shoulder. Truthfully I've never seen an 03 sniper variant that will out shoot my m/41B.

Boy I'd really like to have a nice 03 though.
Holy Smokes, now that is a Swede with a capital S.

I still love the irony that we had to pay Mauser for the privilege of shooting hem with 1903s (regardless of the fact that the M1917 was the prevalent long arm for the American Expeditionary Force).

And I agree, the Swedes made the Mauser a work of art.
