600 yards

Post by musketjon »

I shot a 600 yard mid range match with my '43 Izhevsk 91/30 today and was quite pleasantly surprised. My Remington 1903A3 has been my go-to rifle for these matches. I now have a new go-to rifle for them. It shot better than the A3. Shocked and awed. Who says these old ''junk'' rifles are no good? It made a believer out of me today, that's for sure.

600 yards? 60 yards is enough of a challenge with my eyesight. Sounds like you had a good time. The difference between the US rifles and the Mosin's is that the US rifles if they have well cared for bores can be expected to perform well or they would never have made it out of the arsenal. The Mosin excepting the Finn's is a crapshoot. No two will perform exactly the same and due to variations in spec that the commies never seemed to get a handle on, getting them to shoot well is often a matter of matching them to the specific ammo they like.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.

If you got one that's tight at 100, You'll be amazed at 500. I've used 3 different 91/30's shooting at man size boulders with the rifles set at 400, 5 for 5 hits after a few practice shots and a spotter.

If I were shooting at 600 yards I'd be lucky to hit minute of barn. :D

I could get shots off to 600 yards but I would need my truck to go check if I hit anything.
