My first M39

Post by sarge912 »

Classic Firearms had some m39's that were in less than perfect shape and the price was in my range so I tossed the dice.
I was extremely please with the results.
It's not as pretty as most of those above but I am still happy.
It is a VKT D from 1941. The numbers appear to be all matching and I have a hangtag.
I have not cleaned it up at all yet. Here are the unpacking pics.

Thanks, I am wondering what folks are using to clean the wood up? Linseed? Lemon Oil?
Any tips? I have been using Orange oil on my Russian Mosins and that seems to work nicely.

I think a lot of folks use lemon oil furniture polish.

I decided to go with the Orange oil. It came out very nice. I did find a tiny bit of surface rust when I took it apart, mostly on the outside of the magazine'
That is now killed and oiled. I cleaned out some really old oil from the bolt group and trigger, Now all run smooth as glass. I am very impressed with the trigger although the travel is a little longer than I am used to on the M44 and 91/30.
Hopefully I will get to the range really soon.
Thanks for the tips and pics, Stay safe out there.

I got the old girl out today for a function check. At 25 meters it was outstanding. Hopefully I will get to a full range soon.
It is, by far, the most accurate MN that I have ever shot.

M39 "B" Barrel I picked up recently. I like the light colored stock.

I picked up my first M39 Monday. 1944 Sky. I have been looking for one and this one dropped into my lap very unexpectedly. Any idea of value? The prices on these things seems to be very subjective.

Very nice Rifles I have one waiting at my FFL and one I got from Pat Burns. I will take pics when I pick up the M/39 just waiting on the M/24 I bought to come in. By the way Pat Burns is selling again and they are all antiques (not that antiques make a difference for me, NJ still considers them like any other firearm). She has some nice looking M/39s for sale.

Sadly my M39 collection has dwindled in recent years. Still have a few though. The last picture of the 1944 VKT with the high serial is one of my favorites because of its true oddball status. The next highest serial from that year for VKT is 7647x. No idea on the story behind it, although conjecture is always welcomed.
