Re: RIP 7.62x54mmR
The day I have to hide what I have from anybody means everybody else is in a cave and there is no Union. I have outlived both sisters, 3 wives a child and a lot of friends. I have seen every president from FDR to the Idiot in Chief we have now. I will quote one of the best lines ever written, " You can take my life but you can't take my Freedom.".
FREEDOM...USE IT OR LOSE IT!!

I'm very open about my guns. I see no reason not to be. Most of my anti gun friends are even accustomed to me and my range trips and conversation. All my guns are registered so somebody knows about them anyway.

Re: RIP 7.62x54mmR
SO I'm taking some of the things I've read here and applying them. Going to start stocking up on 9mm, 223, 7.62x39, and am ready to buy a ton of spam cans of 54R when they are back in stock somewhere. Just not for $150 a piece
Last night I got a case of 9mm, another 1000 of 223, and 1000 for the AK. For storage, I plan to use a closet I have in the house and build some sturdy shelves because I want to make more room in my cabinet for guns. The stuff in the spam cans was a few cents more per round, if I plan on shooting them in the next 20-30 years, I can just get ammo in regular paper boxes and it will stay good right?

Be sure the floor under that closet will take the load, ammunition in bulk can get very heavy.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

If it helps, I shot some Remington .30-06 from the 60-70s through my Enfield, shot just fine. Most ammo will be ok if stored properly, keep it away from water, yada yada yada.cleanneon98 wrote:SO I'm taking some of the things I've read here and applying them. Get an ammo locker! Or modify a small gun locker.
Things could be worse. Work to keep from finding out how much worse.

Re: RIP 7.62x54mmR
60's-70's? That's so new it still has the shine on it. I once accidentally mixed some 1907 Frankford Arsenal .30-40 Krag in with my new Winchester silvertips and shot it. It shot just like everything else and I didn't notice a thing until I policed up the brass and realized what had happened. There weren't even any flyers on the target. I shot thousands of rounds of Turkish 8mm with 1930's dates, no problems, 8mm German with 30's dates, again no problem. 1937 date British .303, lots of 7.62x54r 1940's - 1960's, 1918 US cartridge Co .30-06, 1942 M2 ball, 1950's M2 ball , no problems with it. The only ammo I had dead primers in was the French 8mm Lebel from the machine gun clips, 1948 date, 60% dead in the 80's, 100% dead now.

Uh Oh, Bill sounds grumpy! I know why though, his buddy in the White House has just declared that he is going to have to get a Federal Firearms License!

Bills got an FFL don't he? I know he has mentioned more than once that he sells at the shows, I think he's an 01, or 03, I can't keep track of anything anymore.

That's a sweet deal you got! Best I could find was $148 with tax tins near me. Better than gunbroker at 200 shipped. I Wanted 4 but they would only sell me 2. No worry, sent my friend in an hour later to get me 2 more haha

You won't find anything online. Every retailer I've tried is sold out of tins, everything except commercial. The only way you'll find things is local stores, Facebook groups, or gun broker.com but everyone wants 170 a tin, and shipping is 30-33 extra.

Sportman's Guide just got some 54R in. It's 34/cents/round, but if you need it best to buy some to get you through. Use coupon code BRADSHIP for free shipping.

I remember how loud I hollered when the price per round for US M2 ball shot up to .25.

Here is the "deal" from sportsman's guide. Not for me. I'd rather buy 300 bucks worth of powder and primers
Re: RIP 7.62x54mmR
Last time I was around here surplus was still available everywhere, how quickly things change! Fortunately I stocked up, I figure I have enough to last my lifetime and still leave one can to go with each rifle after I am gone, the grandkids are going to be real happy with me.
My wife also knows exactly how much we have (give or take a crate or two), we think the same way and collect together.

In case anyone was wondering...
Here's what came from Sportsmans guide.
I declined on the Buyers club membership then at the last minute, there was a pop up offering free 30 day membership so it came to $284.99 with free ship.

Where is that crate from?
I'm used to Russian 188 and Bulgarian "circle 10". I don't recognize that one.
