I can't give you any information about why the spring looks different. I'll take a guess and assume it is heat treated differently than other exterior parts. That spring takes continuous stress. In my opinion, the screw that retains the gate spring is the most easily messed up screw on the revolver.

Wow that is nice! That would be hard to pass up. Well on my budget it's not hard to, but it sure would be on my mind alot.

That spring has the purple color of the cylinder and hammer of the one I showed earlier. That color is very prevalent on bolts on an SVT. I have heard several different things but nothing conclusive. One had to do with the nickel content of the metal???
