1st Garand

Post by BuckeyeSgt »

Picked up a Springfield today. Came with both gas set ups. Two sets of rear sights. Earlier milled trigger guard. Some en blocs and ammo.

Did you get it from an individual, or directly from the CMP? Very nice looking Garand!

An individual. I bought 2 CZ82s, 1000 rounds and 5 mags for $400. He seems to be selling his collection off a little at a time. But his prices seem to be about what he paid for them. Or less. So I've been keeping an eye on his listings.

Question: Can you use regular hunting ammo in those? Someone told me that regular hunting ammo was to hot for these rifles but I think he could be BS'sing me.

This one is set up for all ammo. But the original parts cannot shoot commercial ammo. Bends the operating rod or something like that.

You can run original op rod with an adjustable gas plug or the garand gear plug. Mine runs great with 150 gr commercial and the garand gear plug.

Very nice Drew. If you want to run commercial ammo in that you can use one of these, a ported gas plug. http://www.garandgear.com/ported-gas-plug.html It's different from a vented plug. There's an explanation at the site. You can also use M2 Ball with this plug. Here's a few other sites with parts for it if you ever need them. http://www.fulton-armory.com/M1-Garand.aspx http://www.ammogarand.com/m1-garand-part.html http://www.m1garand.com/store/m1garand.html

Edit: I just reread the first post you made Drew and you said it came with both gas setups. I saw the part about commercial ammo mentioned and that's why put the link to the gas plug. It was Sonny that asked. My bad :facepalm1:
