Argentine 1891 Cavalry Carbine

Post by redspoon »

Neat little carbine, its about 2 inches shorter than the MN M44 and shoots the 7.65x53. Dark bore with very good rifling. Cock on close and has only one sling hanger back behind the trigger guard, supposedly for a lanyard attached to soldier or saddle. Crest is worn but still visible. Matching numbers but the s/n on barrel is different font, probably changed long ago in Argentina. No import marks.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

I have had an opportunity to buy a carbine as these here a number of times ,same gentlemen at the different shows .its really nice ,however the color of the receiver and nose cap barrel etc is a grey color ,definite grey .reparked I think ,its not shiny nor is it like an M1 GARAND grey refinish blasted look Parkerizing ,semi shiny .Ive avoided the temptation due to the color and the cost , still grabs my attention, but all others are worn finish as these here .price was 550.00 firm ..another reason not jumping on it ,bore looked good ,but hmmm. you know .

The price of $550.00 is way to high, even for an all correct one. Anything South of $300.00 is right. Something to remember is, what else could I buy with that much money. In the case of $550.00 it might be an M39.

Now, that is a nice little carbine. I think they quit making that model a few years ago! Nice find.

I have one that Bubba got his hands on. I have been trying to find a stock and hardware for it with no luck.
But I still love the hell out of that little rifle . It is accurate as can be and a great deer and hog rifleImage Image
