m91/59 m91

Post by scribs87 »

Hey so i was at a gun show and i saw a hex 91/59 that i know think was cut down from a m91. It was a antique receiver. It was in really good shape too. I kinda brushed by it not knowing what i was looking at. Price tag said $350.

On the ride home i grilled myself on not making a offer.
What do you guys think?

Sound like it was a m91/38 if it was an antique receiver/barrel. Either way that is a good price on a Hex m91/59 or a m91/38 if it was not bubbad.

It may have been a Chatellerault 91/38.

Sestroryetsk 91/38s have been bringing crazy money, who knows with a Chatellerault. The stocks on either carbine can be light colored. Did it have a handguard? If not it could be a commercial sporter. Last thing to check is if it has a post and globe front sight. I saw a bubba m91 with an aftermarket front sight sitting in an m44 stock being sold as a 91/38 recently.

Stock color means nothing...

These rifles are starting to go well above that price you were offered. That's a good price for a "hard to come by" Mosin (not rare, just hard to find)......D

I have yet to add an M38 or M91/59 to my collection. Still, $350 I would have a hard time letting go of, unless is was a great example.

Lots of these are in m44 stocks and I'm not sure its refinished. Looks pretty good. You got a fantastic carbine!

Congratulation on a great find and a real bargain. It would likely go for 2 or 3 times what you paid for it on GunBroker.

That makes the 101st M91/38 that I have added to my database. I updated my database post here http://www.russian-mosin-nagant-forum.c ... =5&t=21814 a couple of months ago but will do it again soon.

One question. Is the bolt serial number stamped or electropencilled?
