I picked up another 91/30 today. I don't really go after refurbs much, but it spoke to me and it was cheap. Seems to have the same font on the serials, but the bolt has no number at all. There is an "X" on the side of the barrel shank that sort of looks like a Russian capture mark, but why would that be on a Russian rifle, unless maybe it was recaptured? I looked at some of the other refubs I have and none have an "X" like that. Anyway, the bore is really good and should make a nice shooter.[img][/img]

Very interesting Tula. Are there any refurb marks on it at all? I don't see any pins on the rear sight.
Nice find!

There are no refurb marks on the metal, but the wood is obviously a refurbed stock. It's possible that a previous owner swapped the old beat up stock for a nice red one. I got it from a private individual.

On a side note, the pictures aren't showing because it looks like you used the "insert Image" feature which when used with Photobucket links that already are in IMG format adds extra IMG code to the link making show as only links. Like this: [/img]
But I used one of the links you have and only used the IMG link as it is provided by PhotoBucket and pasted it straight to the message and it looks like this below.

Re: Interesting 1940 Tula
It is a refurb and trying to put rules on what one should see and not see is impossible. Awhile back there were a bunch of refurbished stocks without actions for sale at cheap prices. Even I bought a couple and I had no reason to other than I thought they would come in handy maybe some day. There are sources out there that sell unmarked bolts for whatever use one would want at about $40 or so. What I am trying to say is making sense of what you have bought and trying to logic where and how it got all those random pieces is not worth your time. Shoot it and enjoy it but don't try to add the logic into the rifle that more than likely is a collection of parts coming from who knows where. Enjoy your good buy for what it is! Bill
