What does the "AM" stands fo

Have a Russian mosin and we are trying to find out what the AM stands for next to the numbers

It's just the Cyrillic 2 letter prefix for the serial number. They switched from a numeric only serial to one prefixed with two letters in the mid-late 30's.

Around 1938 they changed from using just a numerical serial number to a alphanumeric number.

They didn't start at AA or 0001. They are completely random.

It means it was made by the morning shift :chuckles:
