Help on Spanish Mauser? 7mm

Post by wolfstein »

I was looking at this gun in the pawn shop today. I think it Is a Spanish Mauser, marked 7mm on the barrel. I know nothing about it and would like some input as to value, collectability and any other info someone will share with me. Thanks for your help. I can get it for $150 or less out the door. I didn't think to see if the numbers matched.

Looks to be pretty good. The ones In 7mm are worth more then the converted ones. If you can get it for less then a great deal. If you had the serial number you could trace it to original or reserialed. Looks like it is original 32 from what I can see of it. On the left side where the gas hole is if it looks like a nice smooth oblong hole then it was built after 1920 or so. If it looks like 2 drill holes and then made oblong it was a pre 1920 that was "refurbed" with a gas home and maybe a new serial

If the numbers matched around 200-250 if not then under. 150 is a decent deal for the 7mm variety and some of the converted ones sell for that also but not to many above the 150 at least here for the 7.62cetme chambered rifles.

It looks very nice, and unmolested. I would be happy as a clam to make that one my first 7mm Mauser. The only drawback is ammo cost, but isn't that true of so many milsurps that don't shoot Russian ammo? I would but it for 150.00 and grin all the way home. Assuming that the bore and chamber look as good as the outside. Wolfstein, keep us posted. :P:P:P8-)

Well I did it. Got it for $145 out the door. Chamber appears to be in great shape to me. The bore is crisp but a little dark. Does not look pitted. Here's the best I can to on the chamber right now. Thanks for your help. Will be researching further.

LTC obviously has some 7 mm surplus ammo made in Germany by DWM in 1937 left:

If I had a chance to get some of this stuff, I'd like to try it out with my Brazilian Mauser. But shipping ammo internationally is sort of a nightmare...

I have both the 7mm Mauser and the NATO 7.62X51 models. I have fired the NATO model, my shoulder remembers it, but not the 7mm Mauser. I bought some 7mm Mauser PPU at the shop, retail is $18,95 for 20, but just can't remember to take it to the range.

I'm shooting at the moment two 7 mm factory loads with my 1935 Brazilian Mauser. One is the PPU 173 gr FMJBT round, the other the Geco 165 gr. SP. Both work pretty well and are of comparable precision (the Geco maybe a bit better), but the PPU to me at least seems to be a rather "dirty" load - cleaning takes much longer after shooting PPU (same is with 7.62x54R from PPU). After my experience, long heavy bullets work better with my Mauser than the lighter 140-150 gr bullets.

Hey, Chuck, you could put a post-it note on your gun safe.

I haven't tried the M1916 in the NATO conversion, but if it's like an FR 8, :big shock: I've felt worse, but that little carbine leaves an impression. Thats why I have all those blue East German training rounds :chuckles:

That would mean I would have to remember find the notes too. I was thinking about going to the club tomorrow but with 91 degrees and humidity at almost 80, I decided it was time to sort out my handguns in the comfort of my air conditioned house.
