My new Marlin, I hear they are good rifles?

Post by wolfstein »

Picked up this new Marlin model 60 SB the other day. Haven't shot it yet, but looking forward. I'm kinda into .22's since I have a bum shoulder.

What brand of scope is that? I like the rifle.

EDIT: Marlin quality has been consistent over the years. I have several old ones, including a Marlin 783 in .22 Mag that I bought in the 80's when Woolworth's was going out of business. Think I paid 85 bucks for it back then; shoots like a dream. I haven't bought a new Marlin in a long time. Please give us a report on how it shoots.

Very nice looking rifle! They are great rifles!
Let me make a short, open, blanket comment. There are no good guns. There are no bad guns. Any gun in the hands of a bad man is a bad thing. Any gun in the hands of a descent person is no threat to anyone--- except bad people. -- Charleton Heston

Guns are not good, they are not evil. Save those descriptions for the people holding the firearm. -- Unknown

The scope came with the rifle, supplied by the factory . It is not branded. It is polished aluminum body, 4X20

Very nice, all of my Marlins have been trouble free rifles. :vcool: :vcool: :vcool:

I have two of the older Mod. 60's and a Glenfield squirrel stock Mod. 60 all great guns and very accurate.
Have fun with it. .22 lr ammo is still hard to find around here, and I won't pay the scalpers prices.

I got a Model 60 for cleaning a Spingfield 67 shotgun a couple years ago. I have to carefully load the first round into the chamber, but other than that, it fires fine.

It is getting easier to find around here but it is expensive. Luckily I bought a couple thousand rounds at pretty good prices earlier. I got 900 rounds at 4.4 cents per round

I love 22 rifles and pistols too. I have never bought a Marlin 60, only because I already have a Tiger and Remington semi, and several bolt actions. I'll jump on one of the 60's some day I imagine. The stainless looks nice, and you found a beautiful stock too. They are easy on the shoulder for sure. You gotta take care of yourself.

I have that exact same rifle. I did not like the scope, so I bought a Simmons 22mag silver scope, works great now. My Marlin shoots well, but hates Remington Golden bullets.

Most .22's have a preference for a specific .22 load, some may like many and hate a few. I have sworn off Remington .22's (ammunition) for some time.
Damn, I'll bet that's going to leave a mark! Probably hurt too!

Back on Topic, Marlin makes excellent firearms, I won a .30-30 at my gun club's raffle and am very pleased with it. I'm not trilled with the safety , but I got used to it.

If you don't want them put them up for sale in the for sale forum, somebody will take them .

If you have another .22, they might work in it. Worth a try.

Try them, I have three Marlins, two of them have no problem with Golden Bullets, the third one tends to jam the last round out of the tube.
