Absolutely not. Welcome to the board, such rifles were made up by various Bubba types and passed off as something original , they are not.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

I picked one up that has an P/U scope, the rifle's in great shape, little wear. Not an original, but it's still a cool rifle and a serious tack driver!

There were some outfits creating these as well as individuals, but they are strictly Bubba creations. Good that it at least shoots straight so you can get some practical use out of it for your money, with these creations that has not always been the case.

If you miss the enemy at 800 yards, just fold out the bayonet and charge!

That should give the enemy time to casually put down his tea, pick up his rifle, brush off the dust, select a clean cartridge from the ones in his belt, polish it, load it in the rifle, have another sip of tea, stretch his arms out to limber up, take careful aim, pause to belch, take careful aim again, and drop the hammer on you with your corpse still far enough away so the stink will not be too bothersome.

I would hope that there is no dust on his rifle.
Damn, I'll bet that's going to leave a mark! Probably hurt too!

If I had to charge the enemy at 800 yards, I would have to get in the truck and drive over there. Maybe holding the rifle with bayo extended out the window.

Actually the soviets did make some batches post war of M38's and I believe M44's with PU scopes on them. I have seen them in pics taken from the firearms museums in Russia ;)
